  • It's ok.

After seeing both Darren Criss and Euan Morten on the Hedwig National tour within the past month, Euan just last weekend and he was AMAZING, I REALLY wish either of those FAR SUPERIOR singers would cut this album. NPH has a far too thin and uninspired voice for this musical. He is the weakest link here and sadly, that's a huge weak link. The arrangements, however, are top notch and Lena Hall is awesome and well deserving of that Tony....and the 3 stars.

I've always liked NPH, and he has such a great sound on this album. His voice is so strong and beautiful, 'Tear Me Down' is my favorite at the moment.
  • Loved it, but Taye...

I absolutely love Hedwig. I saw it with Taye Diggs two days ago. Even though I idolize NPH, I enjoyed Taye's voice with the music more. I'm happy to buy songs from this album, but I wish Taye would get an album as well. :/

I absolutely love Hedwig and the various people who've gotten to perform the role over the years. They each bring something unique to the character and I feel that Neil has done a tremendous job on this recording. I'm not a purest and actually prefer the different take on Sugar Daddy than the more country version of the song that can be found in the original recording. Love it. And if you get the chance to see it live, you must do so!
  • Not the original (and not intended to be)

Anyone planning on buying this album needs to first understand that this is not going to sound like the movie soundtrack. In the translation from the film to Broadway, many of the songs have been altered in order to rev them up to fit in with the new show of Broadway caliber. Generally speaking, many of the songs from the movie soundtrack are a great deal more mellow than the hard, shocking, Broadway Hedwig. If you can look at the album, not as a different person covering the same songs but as Neil Patrick Harris singing completely different versions of the songs, then buy the album. It's moving, empowering, and NPH has an amazing voice. However, if you've already listened to the movie track 9,000+ times and couldn't possibly listen to the Broadway album with an open mind, save yourself the $12 dollars, and save the rest of us from having to hear you complain.
  • Meh.

Download "Sugar Daddy" and "Long Grift" because they changed it up a little (and I way dig the new "Sugar Daddy"). Then get the original album w/ John Cameron Mitchell. The bway production was awesome, but this album is like having a "just ok" cover-band recording.
  • Hedwig?

As an avid listener of musical theatre cast albums and a huge fan of Hedwig, I was incredibly excited when this album was first announced and preordered it as soon as it was possible. The orchestrations are updated, in some cases not favorably (As in Sugar Daddy) and the entire album comes off as a bit mediocre. I am a fan of Neil Patrick Harris as much as the next guy, but the only person who has ever sung Hedwig on an album as well as John Cameron Mitchell in the original off Broadway cast recording is John Cameron Mitchell in the Movie soundtrack. It lacks all feeling and comes off as a sort of Glee-esque attempt at a beautiful musical. I suggest that the people who blindly call Neil Patrick Harris the best and better than the original take a second to actually listen to the original or better yet, see the movie. The emotion that Mr.Mitchell has put into his work is astounding, and it's fitting that he will be reprising his role to show all others how it is truly done.
  • Michael C Hall Rocks Hedwig!

He steals this part right away from NPH. Go see Michael C Hall raise the roof!!!
  • Good. Not great.

I bought this because I love the songs. However, I've seen this on Broadway with Michael C. Hall 4 times and his vocals are amazing. He's more gritty and raw like a rocker should be. While I love NPH, his vocals are too pretty and technical.
  • Awesome!
