i am both an accomplished saxophonist and drummer, and everybody who says these performances are subpar is entirely mistaken. i'd like to see anybody that wrote these reviews try to play donna lee like that! or for that matter, ANYTHING buddy does. charlie parkers donna lee is known to be one of the most difficult songs to play on saxophone and it is played without flaw on this album. i would reccommend this to anybody as a great album.

Buddy probably recorded more music than any performer in the 20th century. Most of what Buddy recorded has stood the test of time, unfortunately these are not his best. The performance is average and the recording is subpar. If you're looking for prime Buddy, start with some of the Capitol releases or his great album with Mel Torme, not this one.
